I believe that we take photos to remember people, places, events, moments, feelings, time... all things that will never last forever. These photographs will outlive all of us, so we use them as a vessel to keep our story alive, long after it all disappears.

I use my camera as a tool to preserve fleeting moments in time.
I prefer to document vs manipulate, observe vs orchestrate.
I feel joy when I capture the big moments, and even more joy when I’ve captured the more subtle, unnoticed yet important moments as well.
I like to think of myself as a professional see-er and I firmly believe that the best camera to have is the one you have with you.

It all started with my mother.
She never went anywhere without her camera when we were growing up. She still, to this day, takes photos of us every time we go somewhere or do something. We had stacks of photo albums filled with photos from when we were all kids. I would flip through those albums, pausing when certain things about them would catch my eye or bring back a memory.

As the youngest, I grew up as the observer of the group - watching my sisters, doing what they did.
I found myself noticing moments and wanting to freeze them in time, thinking to myself what an awesome picture that scene would be. I took a photojournalism class in college and did a project emulating Robert Frank's style as I photographed my trip from Galesburg, IL to Chicago, IL. That was the first project that solidified the feeling in my gut that photography is what I am meant to be doing.
